    Description

    1979-2 Au
stralia Land of Living Fossils - 1979 National Geographic Map Poster
    Furry animals with
    duck-like
bills that lay eggs … creatures that tote babies in belly pouches and jump like grasshoppers. Capt James Cook who saw these animals in 1770 wrote “it bears no resemblance to any European animal I ever saw”. But that is Australia. The map-side of this study contains a classic National Geographic political map of Australia with a map inset of Tasmania. The reverse-side contains a smaller map of Australia color-coded to show rain forests, brush land, grassland, and deserts. It also contains a discussion of how Australia drifted away from the continent millions of years ago and slowly evolved many unique species. It continues the discussion into the various mammals, some of their characteristics, where the live, etc. Surrounding the map are beautiful illustrations of some of these unique mammals.   A map for the traveler or those interested in Australia and it's biology.
An important companion map is our 2000-7 Australia Under Siege dealing with environmental issues in Australia; and that is before the recent fires.
    Map is approximately 22” x 23”.
The National Geographic is known for it's fine maps & detailed information.
